Job Description
Purpose of the Role
The Shift Supervisor plays a key role in creating exceptional guest experiences by building genuine relationships with customers and leading baristas during each shift. This role ensures smooth café operations, maintains service quality, and supports the team in delivering consistent Second Cup standards.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Guest Experience
- Welcome every guest with a warm smile and friendly attitude.
- Show passion and confidence in representing the Second Cup brand.
- Deliver quick, genuine, and high-quality service.
- Address guest concerns politely and professionally to ensure satisfaction.
- Educate guests about Second Cup products and offerings.
- Product Quality
- Ensure baristas consistently follow Second Cup’s standard recipes and preparation procedures.
- Monitor product quality and presentation throughout the shift.
- Maintain coffee freshness standards while minimizing waste.
- Team Leadership & Support
- Communicate effectively with team members and management to solve operational issues.
- Support baristas during peak hours to maintain efficiency and service standards.
- Contribute to a positive, encouraging, and team-focused environment.
- Assist in training, coaching, and guiding baristas.
- Help with café opening/closing duties when required.
- Participate in implementing operational improvements.
- Cash Handling & Controls
- Ensure all baristas follow correct cash-handling procedures.
- Adhere to company policies for voids and cash-handling errors.
- Perform end-of-shift cash reconciliation and balance register records.
Job Challenges
- Mastering drink recipes and product knowledge.
- Handling face-to-face guest complaints with professionalism.
- Troubleshooting minor equipment issues.
- Managing freshness and waste control simultaneously.
- Suggestive selling and upselling.
- Multitasking during rush hours (cleaning, restocking, guest service, deliveries).
- Adapting to varied shifts depending on café operations.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Strong guest service approach with a positive, caring attitude.
- Excellent teamwork and communication skills.
- Prior experience in cash handling, retail, or food service preferred.
- Good product knowledge and selling skills.
- Ability to multitask efficiently.
- Consistently maintain a professional attitude and team morale.
